What does a will look like?
You may be surprised to learn that a will need not be a formal legal document written in specific language but may comprise one or even a series of documents that will express the testamentary intentions of the person. The document or documents will fulfil the role of disposing of property or rights following death.
Your first step is to locate the following items that may constitute and convey the intention of the testator:
- a piece of paper, even a torn envelope, on which a person has written or made marks or symbols to convey a message, or
- a piece of technology from which sounds may be produced, such as an audio tape, with or without of anything else, or
- a map, plan, drawing or photograph
Maybe a Microsft Word document saved in a computer as “will.doc.” may be interpreted by the court as testamentary document.
